Outdoor canopies

Suitable for a variety of educational and recreational activities, bespoke canopies are perfect for enhancing your school’s outdoor space.

Outdoor canopies

We specialise in crafting bespoke, made-to-measure aluminium canopies designed to enhance your school’s outdoor spaces. Fabricated from powder-coated aluminium, they are durable, low-maintenance, and resistant to rust and corrosion, making them perfect for busy school environments.

Our canopies come with a choice of roofing materials to suit your needs. Triple-wall polycarbonate panels are available in three variations: opal for diffused lighting, bronze for a shaded effect, and clear for maximum transparency. For a premium finish, we also offer 8.8mm laminated glass as standard, providing enhanced durability and a modern aesthetic.

Standard canopy kits start at 4m x 2.5m, with depths of up to 6m possible for polycarbonate roofing. The width can be tailored to meet your school’s specific requirements, with a selection of standard colours, as well as the option to choose a custom colour, offering as much coverage as needed and the ability to blend it more effectively with your school buildings.

These canopies create versatile outdoor spaces suitable for lessons, assemblies, social gatherings, and extracurricular activities. They also help improve energy efficiency by reducing solar heat gain, maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures, and potentially lowering cooling costs. Additionally, their sleek design adds a functional and visually appealing architectural element to any school building.

Our roofing options

Our aluminium canopies use either 16mm triple-wall polycarbonate or 8.8mm laminate glass, providing schools with elegant and safe outdoor spaces that promote learning and recreation. Both roofing options are highly durable and shatter-resistant, offering UV-protection and sound insulation. Polycarbonate is the more versatile and cost-effective solution, while laminate glass offers that extra elegance for students, staff, and visitors.

Clear Polycarbonate

Clear polycarbonate maximises the amount of natural light allowed into a space, fostering a bright and welcoming indoor space suited for classrooms and communal areas. It enhances visibility and openness, making it perfect for any areas where maintaining a connection to the outdoors is required.

Opal Polycarbonate

Opal polycarbonate evenly diffuses natural light, reducing the glare and creating a softer, more comfortable indoor atmosphere. They provide privacy while maintaining brightness, perfect for educational spaces and covered walkways.

Bronze polycarbonate

Bronze polycarbonate offers a warm tint that reduces solar heat gain, prioritising shading, and energy efficiency in various spaces. Their aesthetic appeal and effective sunlight filtration creates comfortable outdoor environments, ideal for outdoor seating and learning.

Laminate Glass

Laminate glass in schools enhances safety with a durable interlayer that holds shattered glass together, reducing injury risks. It offers durability, impact resistance, and UV protection, safeguarding occupants and interiors. Ideal for creating secure and comfortable learning environments, laminate glass is a practical choice for school buildings prioritizing safety and longevity.

Some frequently asked questions

Our canopies are all constructing using powder-coated aluminium frames, with either 16mm triple-wall polycarbonate or 8.8mm laminate glass roof panels. All materials are safe, durable and designed to last.

Absolutely! The powder-coating offers an extra layer of protection against weathering, rust, and corrosion, while the polycarbonate panels and laminate glass offer a level of UV protection.

Definitely! All our polycarbonate canopies are highly customisable, and we offer bespoke glass options too. Our canopies can be tailored to fit different areas, including wrapping around an L-bend or accommodating architectural features, and they can be powder-coated in a variety of non-standard colours to fit your school’s colour scheme.

Yes. All our warranties are backed by suppliers and are product-specific, details of which can be found here. We also provide a 12-month installation warranty on any snagging issues.

That all depends on the size and overall complexity of the project. As standard, for a lean-to polycarbonate canopy with no groundworks required, it would be around 1-3 days. It can take longer if there are obstructions or architectural features that need to be considered, or the weather turns. Some can take 3-5 days to install and is the longest we’ve ever known an install to take.

The team will first ensure the site is fully prepared before they begin the installation. If the posts require any foundations or concrete footings, our installation team will excavate one hole per post and concrete them in. Once they’ve secured the posts, and the concrete has set, they will assemble the rest of the aluminium framework. With that completed, they will then focus on fitting the roofing materials, whether polycarbonate or glass, and securing them with the top caps.

Planning permission may be required for powder-coated aluminium canopies, particularly for larger, permanent structures. Smaller canopies might fall under permitted development rights. It’s always advisable to check with your local planning authority to determine whether planning permission is necessary for your specific project.

They’re all designed to be low maintenance. Regular cleaning of the roof and frame, as well as occasional inspections for any wear and tear, will keep the canopy in excellent condition for many years.
